I have taught our cat Missy to do tricks. It takes time and patience but you will eventually succeed- I have trained our cat to do all the tricks below! So I know they can be done.
Training your cat to sit
As the picture shows, hold a treat above your cat's head out of their reach and the cat should sit. While doing this, repeat the word sit in a firm voice. Once your cat does it correctly, give them the treat, and praise them, and fuss over them. Eventually your cat will sit as soon as you say the word and click your fingers above their head.
Pushing open the door
This picture shows a cat successfully pushing open a door. This is how you teach your cat to push open a door: Put a treat on the other side of a slightly ajar door. Make sure your cat can see it. Gently put your cat's paws on the slightly ajar door, slowly pushing the door open. Then release your cat and let it eat the treat. Repeat every day, but not more than a few times a day, or your cat will soon grow restless. Eventually your cat will push the door open without a treat.
If these tricks do not work out for you and your cat, then feel free to tell me, in the comments space, and I will see if I can give you an answer.
At the moment I am trying to teach our cat Missy to jump through a hoop!

Thanks! I'll need all the luck I can get! Missy is intelligent, but she just really doesn't understand why she needs to jump through the hoop!
DeleteThinking outside the hoop, get it huh huh

Delete-Moonpaw
LOL! (About thinking outside the hoop)
DeleteI tried the whole hoop thing again today. Either Missy just walks through it, or she ducks under it!

Missy has now decided the hoop is simply another thing to walk around. Arrgh!

You can laugh! -bet you haven't tried getting your dog to jump through a hoop! LOL
DeleteNope, but we tried jumping over a broom once.:D
Delete-Moonpaw
Did it work? Our cat CAN go over jumps. (If she wants to)
DeleteNot really,
Deletebut she can jump awfully high!
-Moonpaw
Our cat can jump quite high, but when it comes to jumps she decides its nicer to walk!
DeleteWho's seen that video of the cats opening doors? Its so clever and sure is a trick!
ReplyDeleteWe're going to give the whole hoop thing a break. Now we're doing weaving poles!!!! And Missy did it- without a treat, just hand signals! I'm so proud of her!!!! And hopefully one day Missy will be able to do it without hand signals!
ReplyDeleteWho's Grassypaw?
ReplyDeleteTarah is Grasspaw. Isn't it cool, that I'm teaching Missy to do weaving poles?! And I WANT to teach her to jump through a hoop too...
